PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Sandi’s work has been featured by the Washington PostPeople Magazine, the USO, AARP, Duke University, NBA TV's Beyond the Paint, the Creative Lab @ McClatchy, Zac Brown Band, lululemon Washington DC, Love & Carrots, Special Olympics, VIDA fitness, Athleta DC, Spright, The Nature Conservancy, AAA Colorado and many, many other publications and clients.

Although Sandi has been working as a multimedia storyteller since 2011, she began her formal career at the Washington Post in, where she ran weekend video coverage. There, shealong with Brad HornSohail Al-Jamea and Tara Bahrampour, won a 2015 Edward R. Murrow Award in the Feature Reporting - Large Online News Organization category for their 2014 video about Romanian orphans. For the same story, Sandi, along with Brad and Sohail, won second place in the documentary category of the White House News Photographers Association 2015 Eyes of History: Multimedia Contest.

In mid-2014, Sandi decided to venture into the nonprofit world and joined the USO story development team where she worked until early 2022, leaving in the role of team lead and senior content marketing manager. In 2014, Sandi won platinum and gold MARCOM awards for two of her first USO.org stories, and in 2017, she won platinum and gold AVA Digital Awards, as well as an honorable mention, for subsequent USO work. Sandi wore many hats during a typical workweek at the USO, including managing editor, data analyst, strategist, SEO expert, photographer, videographer, researcher, video editor, copyeditor, team leader and writer.

Notably, her role at the USO, a military nonprofit, took her all over the world to film and photograph, including: Afghanistan, Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, Djibouti, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Italy, Spain, Cuba, Hawaii, Guam and Alaska. In addition to filling her passport (and helping her learn how to film video while propelling off a tower, in a Chinook helicopter, while wearing tactical gear, etc. ), Sandi’s USO work also sparked a deep passion for the military community and she hopes, one day, to become certified to teach yoga classes to wounded, ill and injured service members and their families.

In addition to her full-time positions, Sandi has held several long-and-short term freelance positions, which has allowed her to blend her other passions — particularly yoga, fitness, wellness and charitable causes — with her strategic communication and content production skills. Some of her main freelance clients include yoga studios, DC small businesses, nonprofits, activewear brands and fitness professionals!

YOGA BACKGROUND

A lifelong athlete and lover of all things sweaty, Sandi (RYT-200, Yin Yoga-50) began practicing yoga in middle school as a way to cope with the stress of sports, school and other melodramatic 12-year-olds. Several jobs, degrees and a Division 1 softball career later, Sandi began to seriously integrate yoga and pilates into her fitness routine in 2014 and decided to pursue her 200 Teacher Certification from Yoga Heights in DC, where she is also the in-house photographer and videographer, a few years later. Soon after, she also pursued an additional 50 hour training certificate in yin yoga from Mona Abter and Gunnar Lips. Most recently, she completed an 85-hour prenatal yoga teacher training with the Yoga School Institute and is working to complete her PRYT certification.

Sandi currently teaches vinyasa yoga, yin yoga, HIIT and bootcamp throughout the Washington DC area with weekly public studio classes at VIDA Fitness Ballston. She also has a flourishing private and corporate yoga portfolio and has worked with varsity student athletes from The George Washington University.

A true believer of "everything in moderation," Sandi loves to teach classes that will make you sweat, stretch and leave you feeling empowered to take on the rest of the day. Fun fact, her favorite pose is legs up the wall!
